About Us

Sweet Steam Saunas is a small business owned and operated by Steve and Faith Asper.

We first encountered the magic of sauna in our early twenties, while living and working in frigid Northern Minnesota. Years passed, we moved south and the comforting warmth of sauna faded into a distant memory as life's demands took over. Then, the world was thrown into chaos by the COVID-19 pandemic. Confined to our home, the yearning for a sanctuary of peace and tranquility grew stronger.

An idea sparked: a backyard sauna. Steve, a builder by passion, embraced the challenge and the designing started as hammers started swinging. As he worked, a question lingered: "Will we even use this after the pandemic fades and the novelty wears off?"

The answer was a resounding YES!

As we rediscovered our love for sauna, the profound benefits we'd once cherished – the soothing warmth that melted away stress, the gentle detox that invigorated our bodies, and the quietude that nurtured our minds returned. Our sauna became a lifeline during those uncertain times, a haven of peace in a world turned upside down.

The more we used it, the more we realized its invaluable contribution to our physical and mental well-being. It became a cornerstone of our self-care routine, a place to unwind, recharge, and simply be. It has become a sacred space for friends and family and deep discussions.

Inspired by the transformative power of sauna and fueled by the encouragement of friends and family, we decided to share this gift with others. With a passion for building and a deep belief in the wellness benefits of sauna, Sweet Steam Saunas was born."

Why “Sweet Steam” Saunas?

The name, Sweet Steam Saunas, is a tribute to Steve’s dear friend and colleague, Lauri. A true Finn, Lauri grew up on the Minnesota Iron Range where sauna was a way of life. He taught me to love the sauna experience, via his ingenious, tiny mobile sauna built on a snowmobile trailer.

Lauri, insisted on the proper Finnish pronunciation: 'sow-na.' Anything less and you were out! Once inside, he'd pour water on the hot rocks and declare, “Makea Löyly, Sweet Steam.”

Rest in Peace, Lauri
